Clydeneuk

Clydeneuk House, also known as the Candyman’s Castle was designed by the Architect, Thomas Halket, for Mr John Edgar Poynter in 1857. Poynter had been a chemical manufacturer.
He had, however, in earlier life, more humble beginnings as a ‘Rag and Bone’ man and was known for dispensing sweets as payment for rags and bones received.
It is thought that this was the origin of the house’s moniker.
The house was demolished in 1963. All that is left is the remains of a decorative fountain and this can still be seen at Kylepark Play Zone, Kylepark Avenue. The original fountain is visible in the image below.

The Driveway of the house is reported to be haunted although no recent reports of sightings or paranormal activity have been made.
Below, you can see how the house was viewed from the River Clyde.
