About

Uddingston is situated in South Lanarkshire on the north side of the River Clyde.
It lies approximately 7 miles to the south east of Glasgow.
In the late eighteenth century, Uddingston was a small village with a population of under three hundred inhabitants. The population earned their living mostly through farming and weaving. The population grew markedly during the second half of the nineteenth century with new technologies allowing coal mining to be developed to a new level in neighbouring pits. Satellite villages such as Tannochside and Thorniewood came into being to provide housing for miners who had moved to the area.
The 2001 Census marked the population of Uddingston as 5,576.
